Episode 12 You Are Not Your Own

You are not your own becomes quite literal for both Magnus and Valentine in this episode.

Magnus is stuck in Valentine’s body.

Magnus endures the torture of the Agony Rune and breaks, mentally.

Magnus pleads with Alec to believe him about the switch - to no avail.

Valentine is stuck in Magnus’ body.

Valentine throws out red flags left and right.

Valentine shows his hand - and true self.

Alec ignores every red flag.

Alec ignores the feelings in his heart and gut, until it’s almost too late.

Jace finally gets some answers.

Clary hides who she really is… or isn’t.

Harry gets to show off just how versatile his range is.

Alan Van Sprang does such a great job of playing Magnus. More than once, he manages to break my heart. In every way.

Azazel, if you hurt that body… I swear to Hecate… Look, I know Magnus is not in it, right now. But he will be back and we need that perfect form to remain perfect and ready for him!

Clary! After yelling at Jace, you’re really going to keep the whole not-Jaces-sister thing from Simon?! Darlin’ we call that a double standard.

Alec The Defender. Sticking up for Jace against Imogen. This man is so damn loyal. … Well, most of the time… 😳

Guys, why are we all acting surprised by Alec’s reluctance to trust Sebastian? Alec doesn’t like new people. He is actually well known for not liking or trusting new people.

I am so impressed by how easily Harry changes his entire persona to portray Valentine in Magnus’ body. The way he holds himself, his voice, his diction, even his facial expressions and hand movements. The man is a fucking master!

Seriously, someone please explain to me why he’s not a leading man in Hollywood? Instead, he’s being wasted on a TV Show that doesn’t know what to do with extraordinary talent.

Alec! There’s your 2nd red flag! ‘Magnus’ just called you Alec! Come on, man! We all know that you’re Alexander!! Pay Attention!!

I love that Alec is the one that takes out Azazel! Maybe now he can PAY ATTENTION to his man who is not - currently - his man!!

Look at that perfect shot, right where Sebastian told him to hit. And all while being flung backwards through the air by Azazel’s magic!

“I’m not a follower.”

Ha, Jace, you most definitely are not! You are the exact opposite. Actually, you’re what we call a rebel.

A great example of how Harry uses things for Valentine that Alan does. Like here, when he is talking to Dot and Magnus stands with his hands behind his back. This is NOT a Magnus stance. This is very much a Valentine stance.

It’s so great to have Izzy back!

Alec! Come on! There’s your third sign! Why the hell would Valentine lie about being Magnus? Why the hell would Valentine call you ALEXANDER???????? Dude, use your head because this is killing me!

A great example of how Alan uses things that Harry does for Magnus - right here. The way Magnus pleads with Alec to believe him. The tone of voice, the way his voice breaks on that last ‘Alexander’ as Alec walks away from him. It’s so well done.

I enjoy this sparring scene between Jace and Clary. I love their banter. And it’s clear that Dom and Kat were having a great time.

And, of course, there’s Jace’s gold eyes!

I’m so proud of Clary for standing up to Imogen.

Alec, listen! I adore Jace, but he is the wrong one to ask about the body switching possibility. He does not have a clear mind when it comes to Valentine. Sure everything he says is right. But only because he is not listening to what you are telling him.

I love this face off scene. The banter between Magnus and Valentine is great. Harry and Alan play off each other so well. I also love the way the reflection overlaps the face.

As if the glass is showing them - and us - the true soul inside each body. Now someone just call Alec down here and explain that to him. For the love of the Angel!

This torture scene is devastating. Especially when they flash between Valentine’s face and Magnus’ face!

Sebastian’s right, Clary. Jace is the reason your Runes stopped working. But it’s because you’re blocking your true feelings for him.

Honestly, Alec, I am kind of surprised that Magnus forgives you so easily for this.

COME ON, ALEC!!!!! You know that’s Magnus! Listen to your heart, my guy!

“That’s not Valentine.” Thank the Angel! It’s about damn time, Alec!

This scene here! The cold tone of ‘Magnus’ voice, the emptiness in his face, the way he taunts Imogen - Harry is killing it! Harry is really leaning into that darkness and it’s absolutely beautiful!

I really enjoy Jace taunting Valentine/Magnus

I do feel bad for Alec. It’s clear, in the way he holds himself here, that he is being crushed by his guilt of not believing Magnus and helping almost kill him.

But my heart breaks for Magnus. It is clear that he is in pain - mentally and physically. And most likely emotionally, as well, as he is also dealing with the fact that Alec didn’t believe him for too long. Just look at the pain on that beautiful face.

I love that Alec says he’sorry for everything Imogen put Magnus through. I love that he wants to help and he begs Magnus to tell him how to fix it and make it better. Alec, my love, maybe start with apologizing for NOT BELIEVING MAGNUS ABOUT THE SWITCH!!!!!!!!

This look on Jace’s face as Imogen presents him with the Herondale ring - the awe at finally having some answers to who he is - it’s quite beautiful.
