Episode 10 This World Inverted

Inverted means upside down or opposite. And this episode is definitely that. Clary travels to an alternate universe where Alec is the out, proud, and very social one while Magnus is hiding who he is. Valentine is a good guy, and pretty cool. And Izzy is an adorable geek. Back in the real world, Alec fights for Izzy by betraying Jace, who betrayed him first. Simon masquerades as a psychopath. And it’s all definitely upside down.

I adore Meliorn. He’s funny. He’s sarcastic. He’s cryptic. He’s sassy. My kind of being.

AU Magnus is giving off serious Mike Chang vibes in this commercial. Harry is such a chameleon as an actor. I swear the man can play any role.

See, Alec! This is what happens when you align with the wrong side and follow the bad rules. Your fiancee, whom I am currently not a fan of, arrests your sister, whom I thoroughly adore.

“And the theme… is… Amazing!” I love AU Alec so very much! Not more than regular Alec, just in a different way. This Alec is proudly Queer. He’s funny and light hearted. Just as intense about his career as our Alec, tho.

AU Izzy crushing on AU Valentine is hilarious. Clary’s reaction just makes it that much better. As much as I love badass Izzy, I love geeky Izzy just as much. And Emeraude is wearing that Star Wars shirt very well.

I love flamboyant out and proud Alec. I wish we had seen more of this. And once again, Matt’s commitment to representing the LGBTQIA+ Community correctly and with dignity shines. And is very much appreciated and respected.

Alec, I know you want to save Izzy, but offering to give the Cup to the Clave is rash. Doesn’t matter, tho. It’s not there since Jace took it.

I love Magnus and Clary’s friendship in every universe.

Alec! I get that you’re mad at Jace for taking the cup. I really do. You’re even right to be. He should never have taken from the Institute. But to say that Jace weakened your bond, that you cannot trust him - this is not you, my love. This is definitely Dark Alec talking.

Simon does make a good little psychopath!

Someone tell Alberto’s team that we need him to play the bad guy in something very soon.

AU Valentine is so much fun! He’s funny and brilliant and just the right kind of weird. Also, a Mad Hatter party is genius. And I love that AU Alec helped him come up with the theme and plan the party.

“I’m not letting Jace sacrifice my sister for his girlfriend’s pointless crusade.” While I don’t agree that Clary’s ‘crusade’ is pointless, I do agree with Alec on the rest. I haven’t been able to say that much in the last few episodes, because Dark Alec really has a loose grip on reality. But Jace has a loose grip on loyalty so I get it.

I really hate Dark Alec tracking Jace through their Parabatai Rune and risking their connection. I get the sentiment behind why he chose to do it. And we do get shirtless Matt. But I still hate it.

The role reversals for AU Malec’s first meeting is absolutely glorious. And a perfect mirror.

The way AU Alec looks at AU Magnus is exactly the way Magnus looked at Alec back in episode 4.

The way AU Magnus stammers, looks completely undone, and then rushes away is exactly how Alec reacted. See cover photo for further evidence.

“Playing hard to get. I love a challenge.” And I love that AU Alec says that, echoing Magnus and that first phone call.

These two are so damn adorable in every universe. Which, as a fanfic reader and writer, I know for a fact.

Magnus is the best in every single dimension. And I will die on this hill!

Alec, you didn’t fail Izzy. You did try. It’s not your fault. But I am glad to see that you’re waking up and seeing the whole picture. We are definitely nearing the end of the Dark Alec reign.

Well that was a fun trip across the Shadow World verse. See you next time, back in the regular universe, for Blood Calls to Blood.
