Episode 1 Meet

I watched Heartstopper for the first time the weekend of May 4, 2025. Though I had heard of it, I didn’t see how a show about teenagers falling in love would relate to me. Then I watched an interview with Jon Bailey where he said that he thought every adult should watch it. Boy am I glad that I listened. The show is so much more than two teens in love. It is struggle and pain and fear. It is hope and light and discovery. And it did help me find the path through my own Queer journey.

Here we go!

I mean, the guy has no personality. And clearly not a fan of kids. Like, Dude why are you there? Surely there has to be something you can do with your life that will make you smile.

Joe Locke is absolutely adorable. He plays vulnerable yet strong so well. He finds that perfect balance and it is just beautiful to watch.

Sebastian Croft is so epically talented. Even knowing just how sweet and funny Bash is - he does a great job of making me really NOT like Ben.

I love that ‘Hi’ has become a thing in so many shows like this.

I love that Nick just sees Charlie. He doesn’t see a shy, quiet nerd. He just sees Charlie.

This scene does remind me of my own high school lunch days. My group and I were misfits, too.

Isaac’s (and Tobie’s) journey is my very favorite of the show. Because his journey is so very close to mine. It was actually this character that set me on the path I am on now. And Tobie’s growth, the way he is able to run with the storylines he gets - so amazing. You’ll see…

Especially in Season 1, he always makes me think of Rupert. That’s a good thing. As for Kit, the kid has talent. He manages to give the popular Nick an innocence and naivety that was unexpected.

Right here, Tao let us know that we were in for a very intense, emotional ride with Charlie. Even with this warning, I was not prepared for just how emotional it was going to be. And I am saying that as someone that is almost incapable of expressing emotion.

Elle was not in this fist episode much. Thank goodness that changes as the season goes on. But this, taking her cell phone during lunch confuses the hell out of me. And I am still waiting for someone to explain it.

This guy is a hero! He is THE definition of what a teacher should be.

It’s so hard watching this sweet kid try to let go of his abusive ‘boyfriend.’ Really because it IS too relatable.

Way to go, Charlie!! Proud of you!

From this first scene, Tori caught my attention. I knew there was going to be a story here. We had to wait until Season 3 to get it, but we did. Totally worth the wait.

Ben does NOT deserve to even share space with Charlie! Charlie deserves only the absolute very best!

Enter the absolute very best!

Listen, I have been a fan of Olivia for a very long time. The woman is a Goddess. So yes, you will see this exclamation, often, through these first two seasons.

Every time I watch this show, and watch Charlie sitting at that bus stop struggling with what to text to Nick - I always tell him ‘Just say thank you, Charlie.’ And when he actually does, I scream with delight that a character finally did what I told them. Yes, I do this EVERY TIME!

I hope you enjoyed this little stroll through the first episode of Heartstopper Season 1. I’ll be back soon with Episode 2.
