Episode 2 Crush
I really love how this show takes the time to really let us get to know the characters as they get to know each other. The romantic relationships are not rushed but they’re also not dragged out for 6 seasons…
And it’s not just the romantic relationships. The friendships are introduced and built up in a way that we get a look at just why these kids are friends - what their connections are.
I love how this episode builds Nicks and Charlies friendship while, simultaneously, showing Nicks growing feelings for Charlie.
It just shows how in tune with Charlie Nick already is. This is exactly who Charlie needs in his life. Yes, he has great friends but they’re not tuned into Charlie on the same level that Nick is.Well, maybe Isaac, but in a very different way.
Right away, we get a look at just how exceptional Nick is. He is not the ‘typical’ popular jock kid.
This poor kid. He wants to tell Nick about Ben, but he doesn’t want Nick to think less of him. And he knows that Nick and Ben run in the same circle. So that’s not helping.
The fact that he decides to go full in and complete honesty tells us exactly who Charlie is. And that he is not as weak as he thinks he is.
I can see waiting a day or two to allow Elle to adjust to a new school. But A WEEK??
You would think being friends with Charlie, they’d be better at it. I mean, we are not as hard to spot as y’all think we are.
Isaac really is my spirit twin in every way.
I am so glad that Charlie has Ajayi. It’s so important for Queer kids to have atleast one person they can talk to that understands them.
And she only ever talked to Charlie. Seriously, it was a legitimate theory!!
This whole scene was just gorgeous. Watching the friendship between Charlie and Nick - it was so beautifully done. Especially by Joe and Kit. Such talent in ones so young.
I wish every Queer kid could have a parent like Sarah Gods, how much easier our childhoods would be if we did.
Nothing against Rhea Norwood, who is a fabulous actress.
I know Tao’s protectiveness is born from the bullying that Charlie suffered after coming out. I get that and I respect it. But, my guy, we need to verify things before we break the heart of our best friend. Yeah?
Truly, this friend group is the best one I have seen since the Beacon Hills Gang. (If you know, you know)
Listen to Isaac, Charlie!!
The black outlining, like in the above image, shows when someone (usually Charlie) is having a negative mental health moment. Then there are the floating leaves every time Nick and Charlie look at each other. There are hearts for other couples and other moments. It’s quite unique and I am really impressed with the whole concept.
When you start having to face that you can no longer hide from who you truly are - well, that’s traumatic no matter what age you are.
Poor Nick!!!!!! He may be confused and scared, but he’s not running away. And I love that.
I hope you enjoyed my look into Episode 2. Come back soon for 3.
