Episode 9 Bound By Blood

This episode goes beyond Clary’s blood oath to find Madzie.

Alec makes an oath to protect Magnus - not made in blood, but in love.

Raphael and Meliorn make an oath to spill Clary’s blood to protect the Downworld.

Simon makes an oath to stay by Clary’s side.

Alec takes his oath to protect his blood too far and lashes out at the one person who doesn’t deserve it. Breaking his first oath in the process.

Manus races to rescue the boy he made an oath to protect, even from the man he loves.

Madzie honors her oath to bring Valentine his blood.

This Malec conversation is so sweet and intense. The way Magnus smiles when Alec says Magnus is his responsibility before assuring Alec that he can take care of himself.

The way Alec tries to alleviate Magnus’ worries about his mental state after the ‘terrace incident’ at Max’ party. The way Magnus tells Alec that he gets it - he’s been there - but to talk to him if it ever gets that bad.

And this adorable little smile Alec gets as he gets ready to agree to Magnus’ request… Before Jace and Clary interrupt.

“Don’t you people have phones?”

Magnus is so done with Jace walking in on him and Alec.

Jace really does have the worst timing when it comes to walking in on Magnus and Alec.

“So, if I don’t find Madzie… I’m dead?”

Clary, darlin’, what did you think a blood oath was?!

Maia! You psycho!

You really need to get the full story before you go around trying to kill people! This is the second time you’ve attacked without all the information and almost killed someone who didn’t deserve it.

I absolutely love that Alec doesn’t trust Aldertree. He had this creep’s number from day 1.

Simon, my sweet Simon, I need you to let go of your jealousy of Jace and listen him. This is one of those times where he’s not being a dick and does know what he’s talking about.

I’m not surprised that Raphael is willing to kill Clary to save the Downworld. Despite the moments of good we have seen in him, at the end of the day, Raphael is very much about Raphael and his continued survival.

I am surprised by Meliorn’s willingness, though. Maybe I shouldn’t be. We know that Seelies are not trustworthy. And yet, here we are.

“This counsel is biased. You’ve all allowed yourselves to become too involved with the Shadowhunters. Jocelyn Fairchild. Alec Lightwood.”

Okay, Meliorn is not wrong guys.

And Magnus knows it. It still doesn’t mean Clary has to die. Magnus is right and Meliorn needs to rethink his position. There are other choices.

I am not a big fan of the Clary/Simon romantic pairing. I think it’s contrived and played out - the best friend in love with the other and they get together is one of my least favorite tropes. But their friendship is phenomenal. And the way Simon is there with her, encouraging her to not die and to hold on til Jace gets there with Madzie is so beautiful.

Alec! You need to not blame Magnus for Izzy’s decision. You need to listen to the words he is telling you. He did not know anything was wrong until right before he came to you. He is being honest and helpful and you need to say thank you!!

Poor Magnus! When Alec yells at him, I just want to hug him. I know Alec is worried about Izzy, I know he’s scared. But blaming Magnus and blowing up at him was absolutely unnecessary.

“Either Madzie comes with me, or your Angel dies.”

Damn, Jace. That’s my Warrior! Looks like Valentine did way to good a job at convincing Jace he is something he’s actually not.

And I now take this minute to give worship to the way Magnus says “Alec, Stop!” in that deep, sexy voice. So hot!!

Alec! I told you NOT to blame Magnus! We both know that’s going to come back to haunt you. And Izzy might be your family, but Raphael is Magnus’.

“See if you still feel that way when you’re not getting high.”

Damn! Magnus is on fire! And so not wrong!

“You didn’t even notice when something was wrong.”

Not true, Iz. Alec noticed last episode. Before the ‘sex’ talk. He asked, more than once. You insisted that you were tired.

Guys! That little girl has been with Valentine all this time. Did you really think he didn’t spend that time brainwashing her? Be smarter, Shadowhunters.

Alec when you smirk like that and get all demanding and badass, I can almost forgive you for how you treated Magnus. But you need to apologize to that absolute angel of a Warlock because - as hot as this new Alec is - I’m still mad at you.
