Episode 8 Bad Blood

Blood is definitely the focus in this episode. Alec makes the ultimate sacrifice for his family blood. Magnus has a hard time keeping his blood from racing during a visit to the Institute. Simon finds he has a new obsession for blood. Jace is still being loyal to the wrong blood. Clary makes an impossible choice for her blood - well almost blood.

Alec, you’re way to good of a person. Jace needs to know what his choices are costing you. Seriously!

Alec - I told you.

Jace - Don’t say it.

Izzy - Someone’s trying to break in.

Jace - Could be the Circle.

Alec - I told you so.

Jace - Too soon.

I don’t know why but this scene cracks me up every time. I really really love the dynamic between Alec and Jace. Even with how intense it is. Or maybe because of it.

This whole Clave being involved thing is because of these two! Not because of their children! And they damn well know it. These two are almost impossible to like in this first season. Especially this episode. They are way to hard on Alec and Izzy and Jace. Especially Alec!

It irritates my soul that Alec is even part of this reprimand! It should be Izzy, Jace, and Clary. Alec has done his best to try to keep the three of them in line and to follow the rules. But they have run right over him. This should not be happening to Alec!

Look at my archer, protecting his little brother. I’d swoon if I did things like that.

Lydia - That reaction time was abysmal. Except for you.

Because that is Alec Lightwood, Lydia. And he’s the best!

Lydia, you’re cute for a blonde. But you are not Alec’s type. Trust me.

Maybe I’m not supposed to love that Lydia just told Alec about his parents being Circle members. But, dear Hecate, I do! I do feel bad about how it hits him, at first. But we get a few episodes of Dark Alec out of it, so win-win.

“Magnus is quite magical.”

Yes he is, Alexander. Oh, and we know exactly what you meant by that…

Lydia, you don’t know what Alec’s parents have put him through recently. He has every right to be angry.

Poor Magnus. That look on his face when Izzy lets slip that their parents are trying to marry Alec off. Don’t worry, my love! He’ll find his way to you soon enough!

I don’t know what it is, but I really love the way that Alec says “Magnus’ in this scene. There’s an intensity to it. And it’s almost like he’s not surprised to see Magnus. Of course there is also just that brief moment when Matt’s adorable New York accent slips out.

The way Magnus is so captivated by Alec is so adorable. Harry plays this moment perfectly.

This moment! Harry’s adorable smile. And Magnus telling Alec that maybe it’s time he starts living for himself. To do what’s in his heart! It’s just so sweet.

And Alec agreeing with him. Getting all of our hopes up so quickly. Because we all know that what Alec really wants is to be with Magnus! Even Alec knows that. Now if he would just admit it, already!

Clary has such a hard choice to make here. My heart breaks for her. And honestly, I think I would have made the same choice. Simon did not deserve what happened to him!

Jace, on the other hand. Dude! I get that you want to help Clary and you should. But you are also needed at the Institute. I’m guessing that Parabatai Rune must really be on the fritz because Jace is absolutely clueless about what Alec is going through!

Raphael! They’'ll never make me hate you!!

Alec! What the hell are you doing?? I get it, that you want to save the Lightwood name. You want the Clave to know that you are not your parents. I really do understand, my love. But this is NOT the way!!

Oh Sweet Simon! My poor poor boy. And I really got nothing else for you, right now.

This episode was definitely an emotional ride. See ya next time for Rise Up.
