Episode 7 Major Arcana
Alot of major events in this episode - Clary finds the Cup. Izzy makes some changes. Simon confronts reality. Alec is forced to confront more than one truth about himself. And Magnus has some interesting imagery for Queen Bee.
It’s rare for us to get a Magnus/Jace team up and that is a crime. This back and forth between them, as they talk with Clary about the Cup, is hilarious. I have seen the behind the scenes footage and Harry and Dom are absolute menaces on set. Maybe that’s why they didn’t get more scenes together.
I hate Izzy becoming something she is not. All to please her mom and try to earn Maryse’s approval. It’s such bullshit!
“Didn’t do much sleeping.” Poor Alec. The quick backtrack from this is funny and sad. Sweet boy, it’s okay to have feelings for Magnus!
I love how Izzy is always trying to subtly tell Alec that it’s okay that he is gay. And that he can talk to her about it.
I have to say, Matt does a great job of playing the too-terrified-to-come-out-of-the-closet so accurately. Because that fear of rejection, of losing everyone and everything you love, is so real.
Jace and Clary’s little show at the police station is so funny. Jace rolled with the… punches… pretty well.
Poor Simon! He is totally freaking out. And he’s not wrong.
This little moment with Alec and Jace is intense. Like everything else with the two of them. But it is funny, too. I can’t help it, I love brooding, grumpy-cat Alec!
“Demon Pox is a disaster. This I an inconvenience.” I am one of those people that enjoy the show more than I do the books they are based on. But I do love this little reference to the books.
As often as Alec shoots this look at Clary, she’s lucky that looks don’t kill. This time it really was an innocent question on Clary’s part. And you have to admire how she doesn’t let it intimidate her. If only she would calm down and start working with him rather than against him, though.
“That would be awkward.” Gee, I wonder why it would be awkward to call Magnus for help. Alec is not amused at Izzy bringing this up, right now. But then again, poor Alec is rarely amused in season 1. Good thing that face is so damn pretty.
Poor Simon! As if he’s not going through enough! He doesn’t need this from his mom and sister!
“Practice for asking out Magnus.” Truly Izzy is the best sister ever! And let’s take note of how Alec did NOT deny that he would ever want to do that!!
Poor Alec really is not good at flirting. This scene is so adorable awkward. Doll, with that face, all you have to do is smile and say ‘hey’ ala Derek Hale, and anyone - male or female - will be putty.
“I don’t say this, often, but I agree with Clary.” Sardonic even while complimenting Clary. But hey, we’re making progress.
Alec staying back to hold off the demons so that the others can get Clary and the Cup to safety is so heroic. Doesn’t stop me from screaming ‘NO’ every single time, though!
I just love Archer Alec! I love even more that it is really Matt - and not a double - that does most of the archery stuff. I am such a fangirl for a great archer!
So, clearly, Clary’s powers are activated by fear and anger. I loved watching her pull that cup from the card and then use it on the demons. A nice little glimpse of the badass Shadowhunter our little Clary will soon become.
Sweet Alec! It’s okay! You’re not in love with Jace and he is not your soulmate! Doesn’t make me want to hug him any less during this scene, though!
See you next time for Bad Blood.
