Episode 5 Dust and Shadows

Alec is still heartbroken over killing Jocelyn while possessed.

Clary is heartbroken over losing her mom after just getting her back.

Jace is heartbroken over not getting a chance to know Jocelyn.

Magnus is heartbroken over having to banish Camille to The Clave.

And a funeral that leaves us all heartbroken.

Before we get into this, I just have to say - look at Matt’s form! So elegant, so classic. So fucking beautiful!!

Okay, now that that’s out of my system - let’s get into it.

Sweet Alec, my poor brooding Angel! What happened to Jocelyn was not your fault! But I get it.

Ugh, look at that face! Someone needs to hug him! Alec, go find Magnus…

This conversation between the Parabatai is sweet and heartbreaking. Alec trying to not drown in his guilt. Jace trying to convince him that he has no reason to feel guilty. And Alec, with his raised bow and Jace with his raised hands and his ‘Hey, same side.’ comment is such a sweet throwback to the opening of Episode 3.

This look on Alec’s face, the way he says ‘They should.’ It’s both a terrifying and sexy callback to Dark Alec.

It’s a testament to Magnus’ strength by how good and pure his heart is. A demon father, a mother that took her own life because he was part demon, a psycho vamp ex girlfriend, and centuries of watching loved ones die. Yet he keeps helping. He keeps loving. The man is spectacular in every single way.

Magnus giving Clary his memory of her and her mom, and trying to help her, is the sweetest thing. And I love that, even though she is hurting, she does show her gratitude to Magnus for this gift.

I feel bad for both Jace and Clary as they talk over Jocelyn’s tomb. But, also, it’s okay Jace. SHE”S NOT YOUR REAL MOM!

Aldertree, you ungrateful fuck. You’re jealous of Jace, and the Lightwoods, and looking for any reason to destroy them and take their power. Fuck off!!

On a lighter note, Dom wears those long-sleeved v-neck Henley’s really well.

Interesting that a guilt ridden Alec finds himself on Magnus’ terrace. Why do you think that is, Alec?

And this conversation between them, - Magnus’ words of wisdom and comfort, the way Alec looks at him - it’s so raw and real and open. And weirdly sweet.

Alec - I’m fine.

Magnus - No, you’re not. You’re hurting. Badly. You hope the pain here will overpower the pain there. I wish it were that simple.

Alec - I let a demon in, Magnus.

Magnus - That wasn’t your fault.

Alec - I don’t know what to say to Clary.

Magnus - But you will. Because that’s what you do, Alexander. It may take you a minute, but I’ve seen it up close. I went to your wedding. You’'ll blow up the very ground you stand on to make something right.

Izzy and Jace sparring is so much fun.

Until it’s not.

Get the wound checked out, Izzy.

Okay the guilt is really eating at Alec. He would never agree to the madness of trying to raise Jocelyn from the dead if it weren’t.

The look on Alec’s face when Iris asks if he’s Clary’s boyfriend is priceless. And hilarious.

Clary, I really do love you. But I’m really going to need you to start listening to and trusting Alec. For the love of the Angel.

But Alec talking to Madzie is absolutely adorable!

And there is that brilliant Matt smile. Like the sun coming out after the storm. I swear this man should always be smiling!

Oh Clary! I bet you’re wishing you had listened to Alec now.

You would think that Jace or Izzy would have thought to call Magnus before tracking Alec and Clary and going to confront another warlock.

'“Nana, NO!”

I love that Madzie saves Alec.

Before we get into this funeral, I just have to say that Daddario is especially beautiful in that white suit!

Okay, moving on…

The funeral is so sad. Jace’s “Just don’t let go of me.” The man does have a way of saying words.

Clary being unable to say her moms name and breaking down in Jace’s arms is rough! I am so glad Jace was with her.

And Alec’s face through the whole funeral! Oh My God! More heartbreak!!

I just love this shot. It’s so ethereal and haunting.

The release of the souls (or whatever is happening here) is devastatingly beautiful.

Now that we are properly heartbroken - See you next time for Iron Sisters
