Episode 7 How Art Thou Fallen

Many of our gang do find themselves falling backwards, at least a step or two. But they find their way back.

Jace falls back to being a petulant teenager. But finds his inner warrior, in the end.

Simon falls out of favor with Maia when he takes some bad advice. But redeems himself, in the end.

Alec falls into overthinking. But finds his confidence after some good advice.

Magnus falls into his vulnerability. But finds his anchor.

Izzy falls into her withdrawal. But rallies to give Alec a much needed pep talk.

Clary falls into old doubts. But unlocks another hidden part of herself.

These two are so damn cute. This debate about ‘fatty tuna’ is hilarious. The fact that the whole scene was improvised by Harry and Matt just makes it that much better. And you can tell they are having a great time with it. The grin on Matt’s face, the sparkle in Harry’s eyes.

The shock on Magnus’ face when Alec gives him the gift is so sweet and so heartbreaking. Clearly this man has never been truly loved or appreciated before Alec. It makes me angry because Magnus deserves the world. But it makes me happy because Alec is giving him that.

Gods, I just love these two so much.

Magnus’ throwing the gift bag over his shoulder and onto the floor is great. I love how he just doesn’t care about the unimportant things. Magnus has such a beautiful heart and it is always focused on what matters.

Magnus - You continue to surprise me.

Alec - In good ways, I hope.

This moment is everything!

The way Alec says ‘Casanova?’ is so adorable. And absolutely hysterical.

Magnus’ look of panic, though, is kind of heartbreaking. As is the relief when Alec doesn’t get mad. This poor Warlock has been through hell in his centuries of life.

Listen, I believe that Clary cares about Simon. Loves him, even. But I also believe that she runs to him for cover only when things get bad.

I love everything about Malec. Truly I do. But some of my most favorite moments are when they’re being soft. There is no vibe like Soft Malec!

“Go do your job, Shadowhunter.” I don’t know what it is about the way Magnus says this line, but it hits every time.

Maybe it’s the way Harry says it. Maybe it’s the look on his face. Maybe it’s the way Matt responds. Or maybe it’s all the above. But it’s a moment I truly adore.

I get that Jace is angry. He has every right to be after what Aldertree pulled on him. But Alec’s right, this behavior is not him. He’s acting like a rebellious teenager. Not a feared warrior.

Clary - And Jace?

Alec - Not here.

Clary - He’s totally shut me out. He’s not answering my texts. I don’t understand what’s going on.

Alec - Me either. Come on.

I love that Alec and Clary are finally bonding. Even if Alec is using his ‘Shadowhunter’ voice. I hate that it’s because Jace is having a personality crisis.

Poor Izzy. My heart breaks for her. I have been through withdrawal - more than once. It’s definitely not fun. And Emeraude does a fantastic job of portraying it.

I love Magnus telling Maia about the gift from Alec. I love how he is smiling yet still looking surprised. And I love how, when Maia asks if it’s from someone special, Magnus says ‘I think so.”

Like he knows it is, but still a bit afraid of believing it. It’s real, it’s authentic and Harry nails it!

Jace is being a dick, here. But he’s also not wrong. Sorry, Simon. Not about how Simon should be handling things. As funny as those lessons are, they are terrible advice. But he is right about how Simon needs more courage to seal the deal.

The fact that Maia’s “I spit in one.” and Jace’s ‘Delicious. Don’t tease me.’ were adibbed by Alisha and Dom - effortlessly - makes this scene hilarious.

This conversation between Alec and Izzy is one of my most favorite non-Malec moments of the series. He’s so shy and awkward and adorable. She’s so funny and supportive and adorable. And, despite being in withdrawal, she gives excellent advice.

The way he can’t look her in the eye during most of the conversation. I also noticed that Alec has a tendency to point at people and use his hands a lot when he talks (something I also do). I am almost certain that this is a Matt thing. I am pretty sure there are a couple interviews where the rest of the cast teases him about it.

Seriously, Matt’s expressions are absolute perfection!

I really do not hate this more decisive and confident Alec.

And I love this role reversal moment between the two. Magnus confessing he feels vulnerable and fears losing Alec if they move too fast. Alec reassuring him that won’t happen and that Alec is more than ready for that next step. It’s so sweet.

And I love that Magnus chooses to respond by believing him and trusting him.

That Fade to Black moment, tho!! Still irritates my soul. At least they make it right in 11 episodes.

It’s nice to see that the Jace we love is still in there. The tough warrior, not the petty playboy.

I love that Cleophus makes the connection between Clary and Ithuriel. When I first watched this, I figured Clary had a deeper connection to the Angels, but I did not expect it to be Ithuriel. That was an excellent surprise.

Welcome back Warrior Jace. Dom really is pretty.

I am really proud of the growth Clary has shown in this second season. And I am also proud of the confidence that Kat has gained playing her.

That bring us to the end of one of my fav episodes of the series. See ya next time for Love is a Devil.
